{"id":2472,"date":"2018-04-22T08:08:45","date_gmt":"2018-04-22T00:08:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/marts.org.my\/ver2\/?p=2472"},"modified":"2018-10-10T08:09:54","modified_gmt":"2018-10-10T00:09:54","slug":"iaru-region-iii-celebrates-50-years-with-a-special-call-sign","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/marts.org.my\/ver2\/iaru-region-iii-celebrates-50-years-with-a-special-call-sign\/","title":{"rendered":"IARU Region III celebrates 50 years with a special call sign!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>IARU Region III celebrates 50 years with a special call sign!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">50 years ago, on the 12<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0April 1968 a Regional arm of the International Amateur Radio Union,\u00a0<strong><b><em>IARU Region 3<\/em><\/b><\/strong>, was established in Sydney.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The IARU itself came into existence on the 14<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0April, 1925, at the Faculty of Science, Paris University, where a congress made up of representatives from a number of world-wide amateur radio organisations met to form a united voice for wireless experimenters.\u00a0\u00a0This was, a truly far sighted move by those involved!<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The need for such an organisation was just as great then as it is now.\u00a0\u00a0Then, wireless communications was on the cusp of rapid change, largely brought about by the opening up of the short wave bands and the introduction of broadcasting.\u00a0\u00a0Today we have to contend with even more intense demands, particularly on our spectrum allocations \u2013 the very necessary \u2018parklands amongst the industrial world\u2019 in which we need to survive!<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Region 3 comes into existence<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In April\u00a01968, representatives from Japan, the Philippines, New Zealand and Australia met in Sydney to establish a Region 3 organisation.\u00a0\u00a0Other countries, Ceylon, India, South Korea, Thailand, and Hong Kong indicated their support for the meeting but were unable to attend.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At this meeting, it was decided to proceed with a Region 3 Association and establish an interim Directorate of five, representing the countries present.\u00a0\u00a0They were appointed to legally act for the Association until the Plenary (all inclusive) meeting which was scheduled for Tokyo in 1971.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Region 3 Today.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Like most amateur radio involvements, the voluminous hard work is carried out by volunteers.\u00a0\u00a0Indeed our hobby would not exist if it was not for dedicated volunteers throughout the amateur ranks who give so freely of their time and expertise for the benefit of all.\u00a0\u00a0Regional activities are no exception and can be even more stressful due to the distances involved, language differences, let alone the often diametrically opposed points of view of some country\u2019s authorities.<\/p>\n<p>From the humble beginnings at the Inaugural meeting in 1968, IARU Region 3 now has 39-member countries and to help celebrate the formation 50 years ago, MARTS has been able to secure a special call sign\u00a0<strong>9M50IARU\u00a0<\/strong>which will be valid from\u00a0<strong>0001UTC\u00a0<\/strong>1st May until\u00a0<strong>2359UTC<\/strong>\u00a031st October 2018.\u00a0\u00a0Should you wish to make use of the callsign please email admin@marts.org.my\u00a0to express interest.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong><b><em>Every radio amateur needs the IARU<\/em><\/b><\/strong><strong><b><em>!<\/em><\/b><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>IARU Region III celebrates 50 years with a special call sign! 50 years ago, on the 12th\u00a0April 1968 a Regional arm of the International Amateur Radio Union,\u00a0IARU Region 3, was established in Sydney.
